I JUST got this hard drive like 1 week ago, and it's already CRASHED! DEAD! This is rediculous!! S.M.A.R.T. is saying the disc is bad and there are a few corrupt files, no I'm not OCing this one, I'm doing a repair install of XP right now to try and save a few files, but this is just friggin' crazy! I was weary about buying a WD in the first place because their track record with me is $h1t. So after I RMA this drive, they will not be receiving ANY more of my money. Just wanted to vent a little.. Will be sending this drive back in on Monday. It was supposed to be a gift for my g/f who lives an hour away for the computer I'm building for her. I'm glad I decided to give it a test "drive" otherwise she'd be having a fit! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr eGo

i been saying western digitals suck for a while now
they really dont make them like they used to
right now the best manufac's (and they arent even that good mind u) are maxtor and ibm the best ive seen are seagate and a company that went out of buisness but made the best drives is Eagle storage
they used to cost 1 dollar per meg back in the mid 90's (no wonder they went out)

I Agree..

I have a SeaGate barracuda and two Maxtors.. All 80GB drives and they've all ran like CHAMPS! I will stick with those two from now on out PERIOD.. eGo

I bought a Special Edition 160Gb Western Digital drive recently and the damn thing failed in 2 months.

They replaced it, but I went ahead and got a Maxtor and sold the WD drive - I had no faith in it.

I have to agree, WD is sacrificing quality.

Move over IBM, there's a new loser in the Hard Drive market.... :(

I have been pretty pleased with WD as of late personally. but no better then others.

Seagate serial are kind of disapointing speed wise...then again I am still sniffing over selling scsi YEARS ago. LOL

Greg

I will Probably

Follow in FPs footsteps and sell this one once it comes back. So those of you who actually like WD be on the lookout for this drive when it returns. I didn't notice any "increase" between the 8mb and my 2mb maxtors, so I'll probably be going back to one of those.. I'm glad I'm not the only one with issues.. eGo

I have a 80 and a 120 that are both running like champs... the 120 i've had for over a year... sometimes i think its just the luck of the draw... Maxtor has always been good to me as well. I have 80 giggers in my gf's rig :D

Well, I've got it packed up..

AND IT'S IN A MAXTOR BOX! he he he.. :) Anyways.. The box newegg sent it in was smaller than the maxtor box and it was just peanuts (probably why it crashed). It will go out in the mail tomorrow for RMA. Maybe newegg will be good to me and send me a better drive? heh. I just hope they package it better this time!! eGo
