Heck take a shot at E-bay with it, maybe some-one with a museum will jump on it.
Heck it'd only cost 30cents for each listing, take a chance and blow a buck on three items
And don't forget they actually used REAL GOLD on alot of that old stuff!
Got any large dead hard drives? I might want the magnets from them.

Yah, I've got a bunch.. lol.. Just threw away some OLD scsis the other day.. I did come across a 21MB HD in a box I aquired last night. The HD is the size of a CD-ROM and isn't practical for anything I could do with it. But, as you know, they're heavy as hell. LMK if this is what you're looking for, and I'll look into getting it out of there. eGo

Yea if your actually trashing out the drives or tossing em in the garbage anyways.
There's supposed to be some pretty good magnets in many of those old drives. I always heard and was told magnets are destructive to have around drives and floppies, but supposedly those old drives have strong magnets inside!
IF you are running across old tape drive motors too let me know
Where are you comming up with this stuff, Gov surplus auctions?

LoL.. I have a lot of really old stuff in my warehouses. The guy who ran them before my mom got there was into computers, needless to say, that was 15 years ago. There are 20+ old PCs up there. Some of them I will be keeping for myself, others will get thrown away, some may be sold. There's an IMSAI VDP-80, a Comodore PET 2000 w/16k of ram. And a few others that are still new in the box. I also have some people who have them in their garages and stuff and just hand them over. I'll try to find out how much it will cost to ship that one HD to you, I also have an old (5 years maybe?) Syquest tape drive in my trunk. I can also send you a picture of the HD tomorrow night if you want.

That 286 is just screaming for a copy of Minix.
I ran it once on a POS old 386 just for kicks. That machine was a mess and a half. It would overheat if you looked at it funny. I kept it running through the winter by making a pipe out of plastic bags and running cold air into the case from my dorm room window.
I had it set up as a terminal hooked up to my 486 w/ a serial cable. When the 486 was running Linux I could check email, irc, or read usenet news w/o getting out of bed. I tell you, those were the days.

I'll bust open an old 20 meg drive I have here and see what all is in there I can use. Might be other goodies besides magnets
As for tapes drives motors, those I might want are from the large real to reel type tapes.
If you got tons of this kind of stuff poping up I'll try to see what type things I might have a use for.
Strong Magnets and larger low rpm DC motors I like.
