I'm Building my first system and i have a few questions about which ram to buy. Keep in mind I will only be doing a moterate amount of gaming on this machine.
Should I spend my money buying 2x256 of some nice PC3500, or should I spend the money getting 2x512 of some PC2700??? Which would be more worth my while?
Aslo Im pretty sure Ill be getting some Corsair XMS stuff, unless you guys have some other suggestions.
Thanks for helping a newbie.
System will consist of
barton 2500
Asus A7N8X (I think)
Video card still undecided (Dont really want to spend more than $100.)

why you would get 3500 is unclear to me. unless you're overclocking the hell outa that lil 2500, pc3500 is way overkill. if you're running stock speeds, pc2700 should do you just fine at DDR333. now if you plan on upgrading that cpu in the future to something running at 400mhz fsb, than i'd say go with pc3200. just my .02

Actually, I'd get PC3200.
Why? Because most 2500 bartons can overclock to something like 11x200. That would help should you decide to try and oc.

runk
Sorry bud, but we think of ocz like cow waste here.

Perhaps you don't know of their many wrongdoings and sad history.
Quality and ethical companies would be those like Crucial, mushkin, corsair, and others. Actually, any others but ocz.

if you arent gonna be doing massive overclocking or gaming...then go with the cheaper 2700 (as everyone already stated)

PC3200 if you're OCing. Otherwise you'd be better off w/ more ram. For gaming 512 @ high speed is better, even if you just up the bus & lower the multi to run @ stock speeds.
Most NF2 boards have 3 slots and can be set up w/ 2x256 in one bank and 1x512 in the other. Though if you think you might end up buying more ram in a little while getting 1 512 of PC3200 might be best for now. It'll only hurt you a little bit vs. dual channel.
Personally I'm running 1GB reg'd ECC PC2700 @140, but I've got an MPX (dual) board w/ 5 cards, so I'm pretty limited on the FSB OCs.
