usually any educational servers at colleges have fast, reliable connections.

i'll second that for linuxiso.org
great site, with just about any distro you can ask for. plenty of mirrors listed for each image as well. and it's maintained pretty well. i'd reccommend that as your source for linux isos.

I usually get it from some random .edu server or
http://www.ibiblio.org (was sunsite). I just pick one randomly off the mirrors list.
I work @ a University though & we've got mad fast pipes. About the only sites that aren't fast are those obnoxious game patch/mod/demo dl sites (like fileplanet & stuff). 400-800KB/s is pretty typical. I'm wondering what will happen when I get 100Mbit to my desk. They're just now getting around to putting it in... no idea why it's taken so long. Up until a week ago the department had to pay extra for 100Mbit. Now they're doing a mass conversion.
Needless to say the only reason I can think of for having anything better than the slowest DSL service @ home is running servers (web or game). Anything big I just pull down @ work & dump on a CD.
