i know it's a basic notebook setup but i only really need it to replace my desktop at work. don't need nothing powerful, just simple spreadsheets, word processing, presentations, browsing, etc.

i never had experience with dell notebooks so i really wouldnt know.

ya guys think this is a steal?? i dont have much time as it expires today. one other thing is mentions the product will only ship as of July 8, 2003. is that typical from dell?

Dell 1100 Notebooks are nice - I helped a client buy one.

Only thing I'd recommend is you want 256Mb MINIMUM. WinXP runs like a pig on 128. However you can always add an extra stick later from Crucial.com (might even be cheaper).

Also the 1100 does NOT come with a built-in floppy drive so if you want one you need to add an external USB floppy to the order.

Good price though. Last time I ordered one (about 3 months ago) it was around $900 for a refurb.

thanx for the input FP.

at $749 it actually already comes with a free 256mb ram upgrade and dvd/cd-r combo drive.

i believe the free upgrades and discounts end today, so i guess i'll seriously consider the purchase when i get home today.
