I hope you guys atleast got the ultra's. cause them non ultras are beyond week. Not even as fast as a gf4 mx
Coolers, I would say a chromb orb. or one of the newer vantec coolers. no need for one of those huge passive ones on the card.

The Card Cooler in their GOTY issue about six months ago. I got one for Xmas, and lo-n-behold, I was finally able to push my 1.6a from 2.24 to 2.4...previously, the CPU was unstable at 2.4, and I had to clock it down, but this sucker did the job.
It's two large fans pushing 70 CFM of air. Not very loud, either...

The cardcooler goes back to the 300a days. I had one but it lasted barely a year before the fans got way too loud. Maybe the fans are better quality now.

Buy a card cooler? Huh? You can simply make your own in 10 minutes for free! Here's mine:

You need to use a 92mm fan, because that gives you the proper amount of space between the pci slots. I setup mine to blow air horizontily onto my video card / pci cards, but i'm sure you could figure out an easy way to actually fit in a slot. Other sized fans might work for this, but i've only tried 92mm. You just take two PCI slot covers, bend the end out so it is flat, drill two holes for the fan (on each PCI slot cover), screw the fan on and then screw it into the PCI slots on top of your other cards. Works great; I've done it twice.

Interesting mod, Matt. Nice bit of ingenuity, if one already has the parts. However, as a single fan it pushes 50% or less as much air (depending on the RPMs), and at least on my video cards, the air won't be flowing directly over the GPU. Also, it looks like air flow will be slightly impeded by the slot covers...they appear to be blocking about 10% of the area.
Blade, the current Card Cooler fans are a dual ball bearing system. Previously, they used a sleeve bearing system. Perhaps yours was the old bearing system, and this is why yours starting going south and getting loud...

I find it usless to have a fan in your computer unless:
A. its pulling/exhuasting air form the case
B. its on the CPU HS.
As far as just having fans in the case i think youd be better off cutting a hole in the side and mounting a fan that will blow fresh air across everyting instead of circulating hot stale air across everything.

well, if you try something makeshift, get one of those pci blowers that actually blows the hot air out of your pc, so it doesn't just circulate hot air. Easy solution: just get a Orb of some kind for $10 or $15 adn never have to worry about it.

Personally, I have an Inwin Q500 tower. It has vents at the bottom (and top) for air flow. The Card Cooler is mounted very close to the bottom vents, so it gets plenty of cool air intake. Then I also have an Enermax dual-fan PSU which sucks hot air out quite efficiently.
