Since Executioner suggested mailwasher, that has been my savior.
http://www.mailwasher.net
I don't have outlook auto check for email anymore. Mailwasher first checks email on the server and once the crap is gone, I then run send & receive for outlook. For spam, virus emails, etc,, just click once on each one and then 'process mail". That can delete them and bounce them back (I love that part

) .
But, you'd think there would be a good anti spam app that will do it all automatically. Though no matter how good it would be, it'd probably delete good emails. So for now I use mailwasher.

I use mailwasher also. It won't completely do away with all the spam but it will cut it down a lot.

Everyone says mailwasher is good!
I can't use mail washer because the site says it won't work on browser type email accounts like Yahoo!
That's all I use is those type accounts. I haven't seen anything for those accounts. I got a system though
I have learned a neat trick that seems to work good, though it's a pain in the rear. Switch all your important emails to a second account so they don't get bounced back, then e-maill yourself an attachment large enough to overload your mailbox. I used a 3 Mb file myself. That shuts down the box from receiving mail and bounces it back as undeliverable both. I let My main box set full like that about 2 weeks!
I went from about 50 spams a day in my inbox down to just a couple every few days now.
I still get some junk in the bulk box, but even that is drastically less than it was before.
It really is a pain in the rear to have to change all your email addresses and shut down your box for awhile, but it works!
I have 3 main mailboxes. One is my real box for stuff like ebay and paypal and real people, one box is a real box for stuff like forums that send notices of replies to posts and for some other things like specail offers from places I actually do business with. I like to keep that stuff seperate from real mail that may need timely replies in case I am busy and can't spend much time online. I can just check the first box, then when I have more time the second box is still there waiting. The third box is anytime I sign up for anything new I am not sure about, all the spam is supposed to go there. Then when I see a site is worthwhile and don't spam me to death I change the address to box 1 or 2.
One might think it would be just as easy to open a new box and change adresses just once than to changes addresses back and forth every so often. It's not really. I have had the same Yahoo box for many years, every once in a while I get an e-mail from an old friend or 2 I totally forgot about even having my address. Or I might forget to change one important account somewhere. This way just shuting down for 2 weeks or so I still have the same address if I forgot to change anything, plus it's easy to remember since I had it for years already instead or trying to remember lots of new ones.
That's my system, and it seems to work. Did it to all 3 boxes now and dumped tons of spammers

The spammers have gotten smarter. They now know if they get a bounced email back, this verifies the existance of an valid email. I've been reading the forums for Mailwasher, and one person who is familiar with emails and email servers said the bounce is only good at the ISP server, not from your pc. So if you bounce the email, it will confirm a valid email address since the bounce can occur later in the day after it was first sent.

I think that MW is still good for allowing you to preview your messages at the server and delete the junk before it gets to your inbox.
I have not used MW since I've moved and gotten a new email address after 4 years with the same one. I now have 2 emails address and so far I have not received any spam. These little bastards (spammers) will continue to exist no matter what you do to rid your box of their crap. To bad there is not a universal "never send" list, as I would probably have a 100 foot penis by now.

John, the regular mailwasher will check multiple email accounts too. I've been using it to check 3 for the past 6-7 months and just recently upgraded to the pro version. Though I had to restart it to input more accounts.
Just did a test blacklisting and bouncing an email. Here's what was received.
Title: Returned mail: User unknown
The original message was received at Thu, 29 May 2003 17:23:49 -0500
from dsnat [ip was here]
----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
my email was here
If the spammers still do know it is a valid email, at least it is being spammed back at em.

And we just have to click one time to remove it.
I would probably have a 100 foot penis by now.

Moby dick eh

Another option would be to use Hotmail and set your spam filter to Enhanced, which catches most spam, tho' I don't know how smart it is...some legit email might get tossed. If you wanna get drastic, set the option to Exclusive, which only allows delivery of email from contacts in your address book.
