While looking for the built in CD player in XP ( Didn't find it :( ) i found a feature in WinXP that will have windows read to you.

In WinXP go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Accessibility > Narrator

I found out that if you click on a link, when you have a certain feature turned on in narrator it will read it to you, how would i go about having it read webpages to me?

This would be very helpful when i'm lazy and i want a long article done by some news site read to me. I tried to get it here on the forums to work, but i had no such luck.

Any of you guys know how to do this?

There is no seperate CD player in XP - you use Media Player.

First I've ever heard about Navigator. I'll have to play with that.

Well I be darned.. Didn't know about that either!

I played with it for a while but couldn't find a way of making it read highlighted text only. You'd really think there would be a way, why there isn't is beyond me..

Simpilest way I found was too copy and past the text your after into notepad and hit ctrl+shift+enter. It reads the contents to you. (click on help in narrator to see more commands but their isn't many)

After discovering that works I began making my own filthy word filled note pad and playing it back. Play with the speed and pitch a bit for more humor.
LOL!
I had the headphones on and the wife, watching TV, was wordering was the hell was so funny over there.. "nothing dear"

OK.. OK.. I'm 42 and should be acting my age but that may never happen.

Good find.. :)

I found the narrator about 3 months ago and did this as well.....it's quite possibly the most laughter I've ever gotten from my PC :D

Hmm,
Does 2K have anything like that hidden somewhere?
I only use 2k, But might like somethng like that.

Does XP pro call home? I still have times I won't have access to phone, but might change parts durring those times and worry about XP not running after an upgrade or re-install. I heard somewhere they added that in a service pack for Pro, or was it a one time thing?

I'll find out tommorrow if I'll be giving up computers. Go to the eye doc around 5:30pm. First time in about 20yrs :) I beleave in those regular checkups :)

Something that reads forum posts might be nice, but how does it interpet smiley faces and dancing chicken icons? :chicken

Does it do everything in all the same voice or can you set it to change voices? Would be neat to assign various voices to people. Maybe give Dopey a Goofey voice, Nexus a mickey mouse voice, and FP a sqeaky bird voice :)

I haven't played with text to speach software since around 1995, hopefully it is alot better now.
I do have speach to text for dictation but never use it. Think it's Dragon, just don't have the area setup for it. Too much background noise in the area. It was pretty good to play with though. I was gonna write some goofey kid books with it, but I get too many errors.

Little rob rabbit hood and the big had a woof. :)
Duh tree little pigs meet Franklin Stein and the wear woof :)
Hanzel and Gretel and the mean little bitch. :)

Some of the stuff did come out a little funny,

and the big APPLE has narator since ages, with the possability to change the voice to your own likenings. Listening to the MS narator gives me the creeps. Basicly, it sucks.......
