Nice scam...

Post by FlyingPenguin »

Just when I thought there were no lower life forms than lawyers and Network Solutions....

One of my clients got an "invoice" from ICLS.net. If you look VERY carefully, it's an advertisement. If you pay the invoice you buy their Search Engine Listing service. It's BARELY legal.

More info here: http://www.bottomdwelling.com/archives/ ... /index.php

30 seconds of research (gotta love the Web) confirmed my suspicion that the "company's" address listed on their website was just a box at a Mail Boxes Etc.

Sent them a nice nasty email, and filling out a fraud complaint at the USPS web site.

Wonder how many individuals who buy a domain name get suckered by this clown?

I've received that one several times along with many others promising "astounding" results, for money of course. I just bounce the emails back to them using mailwasher.

A great free website submission is http://submitexpress.com/

Well this one came in the snail mail, and looks for all intents and purposes like a legitimate invoice.

register.com tried that to - via email and snail mail. Send out fakeish domain renewals to people who werent using them as their nic. You pay for a 'renewal' from them, then they host your domain. IIRC, they got smacked pretty hard by the FTC for it too
