Loud case.. loud fans...
what can i do to minimize the noise w/o going to watercooling?
question for owners of Akasa acoustic mats - on a scale of 1 to 10, how well does it work? are there better or cheaper alternatives that do not affect heat dissipation?

You could do what a lot of modders do and get a BayBus, PCMODs sells a pretty decent one
for cheap.

See Pred's review on that Sunbeam fan controller. That IS the ticket.

Yeah those Sunbeams are nice... if your fans are 4 pin and you don't wanna buy a shitload of 4 pin to 3 pin adapters find a dead psu and go to KDC and get some 3 pin ends and make your own custom cables for it.

Akasa acoustic mats - on a scale of 1 to 10
I think that Akasa dosen't work for me 2 points out of 10 , I bought that and nothing happened .
forget it , a better solution is two corcks .

oh hehe..
i ordered an Akasa kit from SVC but they're out of stock.. just as well if you rate it as only 2 of 10..
i also ordered one of them spiffy fan controller thingamabobs
hopefully my rebates (currently at a total of $550) starts to come in.. then i'll be ordering myself a Koolance Exos....
any of you know how good they perform? (overclockwise)

After the fan on my GF4 died I switched it out with a fanless GF2mx while it was out for RMA. When it came back I realized just how loud it really was. It was actually the loudest part in my entire comp. I swapped it out with a Zalman zm80a-hp cooler and switched out my case fans with a couple 20 db. fans and now the loudest part in my comp is the hard drives. It probably isn't desirable if you oc your video card, but I have no complaints/crashes running at stock speeds on a ti4200.

i've tested the pc w/o the case fans.. it was definitely the 4 case fans making the noise..
each produces about 28decibel of sound

Hey check out this article from Yoshi of
The ScreenSavers
He built an air intake baffles, used Dynamat and other matting and built a PC thats 8db when on SIlent and 14db on "loud" mode
he says he cant hear it at all from 3 feet away

that is a nice article.. but i lack the resources to construct all that... he used like 3 different materials and constructed air vent paths for the fans... there's no way any regular joe can do that w/o a LOT of time and money.
besides, my case has a window in it... why would i want it too look like his? fairly ugly
