Hmmm.. Trying to be sneaky here.. I have a dead XP1900+ and a deat Tbird 1.33... Was wondering if anybody had ever purchased both an OEM and Retail version of the same CPU and had a problem with the OEM and sent it back for warranty under the Retail terms? Theoretically this should work? I think?? I don't know. What do you guys think? Or do they catalogue the #'s on the CPU some how to correspond with the Retail vs. OEM batches of chips? If not, I may buy retail versions of both of these chips, and send them in for RMA.. Yeah, I know it's not right.. But one was dead when I got it for X-Mas and is an OEM and purchased in like 11/02 so I didn't even get it until 2 months later.. lol.. Anywho, any thoughts? Please don't bash me for being "naughty" lol.. eGo

I have a retail XP2400+. The HSF has a barcode sticker on it that will match up to the serial # on the chip. They can tell which ones are retail or OEM. The last retail chip I had to RMA through Newegg required the HSF to be sent back with the chip.

Ahhhh.. I see..

Well, then how about OEM? lol.. The OEM processor I bought came with nothing but a plastic case holding the chip. Nothin' on it.. I guess I could try that.. lol.. Thanx for the info thought Nascar..

I'm not going to bash you. I'm simply going to point out that what you are considering is fraud. Do it via US Mail, and it's a federal offense.
That is, if you get caught...
Yeah, I know..
