hello, as some of you may or may not remember i recently rma'd a seagate hdd. i wondered if the temp @ 30-36c or having partitioned into 2 logical drives c:=10gb e:=50gb could have contributed to its premature failure? i had s.m.a.r.t and it detected nothing b4 it died.

Partitioning won't do that to a drive, I have always had my drives partitioned. I don't think that temp is too too high but it may be.

That's a good temperature for your drive. The 7200RPM seagates have an operating temp of 0 - 60C so your more then fine.

It's just one of those things that happen ya know. And don't trust to much in SMART, it only picks up 75% of the errors, and most of the errors it picks up are general "Im wearing out" errors. Odds are, since SMART didnt see it, it was a faulty drive to begin with

SMART is a good feature, the problem is that it is normally only read during bootup from the BIOS, you need extra software to monitor the SMART status while your system is running.
I had a 40GB die on me without warning, my BIOS didn't pick it up anymore after a clean shutdown.
