Ati AIW 9700pro

Post by busheadfox »

I am looking at a intel board for a 3.06 gig cpu and want to put in a AIW 9700 pro board. The motherboard only supports AGP4x. Since the 9700pro can use 8x will I see any great speed reduction or should I try to find a board that supports AGP 8x.

Well I'm using a 9500Pro (EDIT: in 4x mode) and it's still plenty fast :) I think the only difference ur gonna see is in benchmarks.

You won't see a difference. All the current games are programmed to run mainly in videocard memory and avoid swapping via AGP to system memory as long as videocard memorysize allows.
CaterpillarAssassin is also correct, the only difference might be shown in some benchmarks, and it's a very small performance difference.

Yeah I agree with DOC, and Actually its been tested and proved, in some areas the 4x is out performing the 8x, bear in mind only a fraction but still It will not hurt at all, I have a 9700 Pro, not an AIW, running at 4x and it is fast as hell, dont worry about it at all.
