I picked one up over @ highspeedpc.com (which btw got it to me in 2 days for <$5 shipping, very good people). Anyways, i have two questions about it.

1.) Can it read-out in fahrienheit? From looking at it it seems it might, but it's pretty plain, no buttons to press

2.) What is the best way to get a core temperature reading with it? Where should i stick the probe? Should i slide it under the heatsink?

No doubt, HighSpeedPC is a great site run by very good honest people.

But, the temp probes on the compunurse are not thin and long enough to fit under the cpu. That's where you get the more acurate reading with a probe like this. The ones thermaltake makes are perfect, long and very thin.

But what you can do is carefully trim the plastic coating off the lines near the probe and that might allow you to place it under the cpu. Or at least close to the raised cpu, between the heatsink and cpu. If you do trim do be very careful. On the one I had I trimmed too close and ruined the first wire. Luckily i had another.

And if you do place it under the cpu you'll need some thinly cut tape to secure it. And be sure it does not get in the way of the cpu pins or the mobo clip. A few I attached this way didn't boot so I had to try again. It could take several tries.

From what I remember it only reads in celsius.

Well, it'll actually be under a waterblock. A Swiftech one and it screws on. The probe is actually about as thin as it gets... maybe this is a differnet version? Do i have to worry about this actually touching the core or should it? Should i take the block off, tape the sensor in place, and then put the block on or just thread it through and hope it's making contact?

If you want to put it between the cpu and the swiftech then it should be as close to the raised cpu as you can get it, but not on the raised cpu. Touching it if possible. That's for best accuracy and to be sure it's there, you would need to remove the swiftech.
