Networking a 98 and 2000 computer together?

I got 2 computers here

one is on windows 98 (this is the one that is connected to internet with phoneline)

the other is connected to the 98 box via a crossover cable and the nic (this is the one running win2000)

I can see both computers on the network. I can access files on both systems from the other, so I know they can see each other on the network.
But I cant access the internet from the win2000 box. Whenever i try to visit a site, IE pops up an error box of "Internet Explorer could not open the search page."

Any ideas on how I can set this up so I can browse the internet on the win2k box?

if you help me with this, i will let it fold for the time being while its set up down here :p

easy as pie, if its 98se, all you have to do is enable ICS (internet connection sharing) on your dialup connection and your good to go, or you could use something like wingate if you want NAT and alot more options

ICS is usually pretty straight forward no matter what the connection. most all ya gotta do is check the box, and set the host machine as the gateway on the other one. (so if 98 is connected, check the ICS box, under its network settings. then goto the 2000 machine, and set it as a static ip, with the gateway as the 98's ip.)

i know that all sounds confusing, but theres lots of info. jus do a google search on it. i don't like the third party software, had some bad experiences, but either should work.

BUT MAKE SURE IF YOU USE ICS, ITS 98SE!!!

Unless someone has discovered something new, I know of no way of sharing an AOL dialup connection with another computer. AOL uses it's own proprietary dialup module and it's not compatible with ICS or any NAT software I know of.

you should be able to share aol useing wingate, at least i did it back in 96 or 97 when they were the first isp with unlimited hours
