There is one file that kazaa needs to work, forgot the name. But when you run adaware you can deselect it. It does sound like you have spyware and some will cause that problem. Or aol.

You are suffering from a NetSend. Now that nearly every computer sold comes with NT installed, advertisers have hooked NetSend to spam to everybody.

Firewalls like ZoneAlarm automatically stop it, if they plug port 139.

Otherwise:
Click on the Start button and open the control panel.
Open the Performance and Maintenance control panel and go to Administrative Tools.
Now double-click on Services, then scroll to Messenger.
Double-click Messenger and click Stop to stop the service.
Change the startup type to Disable

Also, there is a verson of Sisoft that has annoying popups. you have to remove it and some other strange program that has no reason being in your add remove programs...remove them and install a newer sisoft.

If it's an all text message in a plain message window (like the kind system messages are displayed in) it's Messenger Service broadcast.

Follow Slugbait's instructions. Unless you're on an corporate LAN that uses netsend messages there's no reason for Messenger to be enabled.

What really puzzles me is why MS left it enabled in XP Home when Home is not designed to be used on a corporate LAN.

Right click the Messanger service and select Properties, it's in there. I ALWAYS disable messanger and remote registry.
