Transformer Cooling, A Hot one!

Post by canton_kid »

I got a new cordless power tool, the transformer is very hot!

SInce all types of stuff uses tranformers, scanners, printer, etc... Figure I'll get a hot pc tranformer sometime too.

Would it be worth while you think to put a heat sink on it when you get a HOT one?
The bits with this partical tool are worth more than the tool, but being cordless I'd like to use it sometimes instead of the variable speed craftsman one I have which is tied to 110.
Otherwise if it weren't for the fact it is about 150 miles to the store and I want the bits I would probably take this one back.

Thought I might make a a alumnium heatsink for it so it don't burn out too fast. Now how would I fasten it on without voiding and warrunty (which probably is useless anyway) on this tool?

Thought about maybe using a large hose clamp to hold something like DDR heat spreaders around all four sides.

It's a rotory tool like a dremel, I think it is a 3.5 volt or something like that. Cordless. I have a craftsman variable speed on a cord and a dremel cordless one too. I only use the dremel for windshield repair though. Came with the other tools.

Not the tool getting hot, just the wall transformer for charging it. Haven't used the tool yet,

Was $25 and included about $30 or more in bits plus other stuff. The extra's were worth more than the tool :)

Might use the tool to mod the transformer :)
