Installing a GF3 card on my MSI BX Master with P3 700@966 & win XP pro and having lots of driver problems, infinite loop memory dumps etc. but when I went to reinstall my GF2 card and go online, tried to type and no keyboard?

Tried a reboot but no post beep at first so changed keyboards & lites and beep but still no signal out from the keys.

Its powering up, flashing lite and showing power on but cant get a signal out. Cant even enter bios! Tried another ps2 keyboard with same result, reset bios to default and now show a screen with F1 to continue or DEL to enter bios but I cant get a signal out of my kb so there I sit.

Any clues for me or what next? I dont really want to buy a usb kb for an old motherboard with limited life but is that my only option now?

Never had a dead PS2 port but is it?



On another note, this GF3 on my BX Master with winXPpro is a disaster and gets worse the more I use it. Hard locks or mem dumps & I've tried 4 different driver versions including the XP default one.
As its a BX chipset, I run the agp at 89-93mz so I know that could be a problem although never a peep from my V5, GF ddr or GF2 GTS.

I dont overclock it but powerstrip shows it at 200/460 with 460 being at the top of the bar in the red zone! Not sure if this is a powerstrip problem though.
Its an origonal GF3 from Pixelview, Prolink I think and is tagged on the card as an NV20.

Any help would be appreciated.

If your keyboard port isn't working I'd begin to suspect your mobo is going south - that may explain the problems with the video card as well.

You don't have much choice at this point. You could buy a USB keyboard but I really think it's time to buy a new mobo. Not like a good BX mobo will set you back much - still lots of Asus P3B-F mobos lying around (great server mobo).

BTW: If you suspect the AGP clock is problem why are you still overclocking? Process of elimination - try it normally clocked. However, I know for a fact NVidia cards don't mind an overclocked AGP bus. Just don't enable sidebanding or fastwrites when overclocking.

I forgot to mention that I had set the fsb/agp back to 100/66 with the same problems but wasn't sure if it was corrupted drivers then.

I was just on the other computer, read your post and went to reply when the kb stopped responding again!! Must be the mb, it was an inexpensive buy with the slot P3 last fall and had hoped to keep it going till late winter then upgrade this machine.

Not sure whether to buy another slot 1 for 4 months use or sell the P3 & crucial and buy another older epox/XP combo. I already have an extra 512 of crucial ddr 2100. Slot 1's are getting rarer plus I prefer to buy up here. I do have a Tyan 400 with a celeron 700 in it that I was going to sell that I could press into use, and could sub the slot 1 P3 for the socket celeron.

Was planning on a KT400a mb but will maybe see what I can find for a cheap slot 1.

You can always pick up the K7S5A. It's a very nice mobo for a very tiny price.

I believe the K7S5A is an amd mb and I'd like to keep this slot 1 P3 in use or else have to sell it and replace. Just sold my 1.4 tbird a couple months ago.
