Anybody Know How To.....

Post by eGoCeNTRoNiX »

Put a Car stereo into your home PC? I've seen all kinds of PC's with this feature. I'm just curious what's intailed. Do they actually get the audio from the Car Stereo to play on the sound cards for the PC's? Any info is appreciated.. eGo

I think this is what you are seeing...

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.a ... 14&order=1

i haven't seen anyoen put a car stereo in a PC but it wouldn't be too hard. Why you would want to is beyond me since most decks don't have a input so you really couldn't get sound from the PC...

actually....a lot of the newer decks do have an input. But you wouldnt be running anything into it. If you were gonna run the radio/cd/tape from it, you dont need an input. Just the output with the wireing harness. Most of the input is for if you have an addtional cd changer in your trunk, then you can run it to your head unit. Or with those fancy cars with builtin tvs and such, so you can listen to whats on the tv through your speakers

Although you can install a car deck in your computer with some slight modding.......the only problem is gonna be to power it up.
Gone for good. But never say never

it would be simple to power it up... your PC has 12V. and all i would do is use the aux out on the stereo that would normaly go to amps to go to the AUX in on the soundcard.

I think you're right Pred.

Pred, that does look a lot like what I have seen in some of the casemods and http://www.pimprig.com So that's more than likely it. I agree with the others. It wouldn't be too hard to put in the PC, buy overall a waste in my eyes. I was just curious as to whether they had to custom build harness' or if they foudn other means of making the function.. Thanx for all your opinions guys!! eGo

I could see lots of uses for a car stero in the PC.

One, to listen to music of course! Well maybe not music, but radio anyway. Been lots of times the kid or wife is listening to the radio (I don't often) sudenly they say something I am interested in, but can't hear it becuase the radio is in the other room. Well just flip the switch and I got my own till what ever I wanted to listen to is over. Could use a radio for the same thing, but hey as little as I listen to it I would never find the radio, the pc I always KnoW where that is. Well, at least most the parts :)

Really good radio with good reception? Great way to get some new MP3's! MOst of the music now adays I can hardly tell the difference between radio and a CD. Ya I know the fidelity and all the other specs. But when listening to it normally I just can't tell that much difference. SO grab MUSIC Match and record some MP3"S right off the radio! Probably as good or better than most I have downloaded anyway! And no protection :)

Forget the Cd player, waist of money, go cassette. You DO have a CD drive or DVD drive don't you? Then you don't need a radio with CD really. Now with cassettes you got Something! No other way I know of to install a cassette deck into a computer easily. Once installed start ripping that major collection of Cassettes you collected in the 70' 80's and 90's! Ya I got about a hundred of the things! Listen to some sometimes, but a pain to find the ones I want so I mostly forget about them. Not about to spend the bucks to buy the albulms on CD's. SO listen to them once on cassettes and record to MP3 or CD at the same time. Store cassettes as collectables for the next decade!

Some Radios are fairly cool looking with that light up display for a tuner and maybe some LEDS? Nice mod.

If you got a UPS on the PC you got a radio to tell you why the power just went out. If you got a regular radio you know the power went off because the radio stopped working :)

And the number one reason to add a radio to your pc, "Because it's there"!

Ok, seams all my thoughts on mods get metioned before I do it. So this was one of my thoughts for my mod, but now that it's mentioned here I might look like a copy cat.

Soooo, I'll mention something I am also thinking on that hasn't been mentioned yet!

8 Track tapes! Ya thats right, I got a nice 8 track tape player I am thinking of using for a mod. Same reason as the Cassette radio, I got a ton of good tapes but not worth paying for again on CD's. (if you could even find them) If I can make it work I can rip them to Mp3's then burn some disks.

Only reall problem is the 8track player I wanted to use is a bit bigger than the case is wide So I have to figure something out.

There used to be and still might be FM tuner cards available for PC usage. I think i have one in a drawer somewhere.
