Dual monitors

Hi guys,
Just wanted to see how many of you have a dual monitor setup. I'm currently running Win98 on a Geforce 2 GTS AGP video card. I have a spare monitor laying around, and a spare Matrox card I could use as the second adapter. My only concern would be: how does Windows determine which adapter is the primary? I've read that if you already have an AGP video card, then the PCI card will be the primary. Is this true? Are there any bios settings to change this?

I think the AGP will be the primary and there should be a setting in your bios.

Monitor 1 ViewSonic ViewPanel VA800, curtousy of Nexus_7

Monitor 2 ViewSonic PF790

I love my setup. My second monitor may be nothing fancy, but it runs a high resolution for being 8 years old. (and at a 75hz refresh rate too).

I have a Dell P990 19" monitor running at 1290x1024 85hz for my main
And an old Gateway Vivitron 1572 (really a Dell Trinitron) running at 1152x864 at 75hz. I use that one for Trillian (covers the whole monitor (I have all my im windows in one window) and have my photoshop stuff over there, and sometimes I use for multiple browsing. :)

I need some new monitors. Got a lot of money after working my job for a while, so I better start looking for a new 19".

About your question, I would think you would be able to choose. I guess I wouldn't know though, because I use a Radeon 8500. ;)

yes you can chose, the setting is in your bios, I use a 21 nokia 445xpro as my primaryand a 17 inch dell sony as secondary, i dont set m side by side though- second is used for winamp , messanger, irc etc.. so i can use primary for main task and not have to alt tab all the time- BTWmost cards support dual monitors nowadays, saves the pain of useing two cards- im useing a msi TI4200
but was using a ti200 and pci AIW previeously

Couldn't go back to 1 monitor now.

Using a GF3 T1200 and a GF2 MX 200 with dual 19" monitors. Both running a resolution of 1280 x 960.

To answer your question, the card that's already installed will be the primary. Make sure that in your BIOS menu you have AGP selected as the main display card.

I don't know if you'd really call it dual monitor but I use an NEC FP950 for everything and run svideo out to my 27" T.V. so friends can watch me play games and visa versa from the couch :) Its good to watch movies on as well.

Visiontec GF4 440 MX and a Hitichi SuperScan Elite 20 as primary and a Panasonic PanaSync 17 as secondary. Works great.

Compro Personal Cinema GF3 Ti200 running a Viewsonic 19" CRT at 1600x1200
Voodoo5 5500 PCI running a 15" KDS LCD at 1024x768

For my old Glide games, I just swap monitor cables and make my Voodoo the primary

Note: there seems to be some mobos that default to PCI as the primary adapter, even if you previously only had AGP. At least, that's what happened with my P4B533. Gotta change it back to AGP in the BIOS.
