I was rummaging through my old crap in my PC crap pile and found a copper cold plate and the peltier pad i bought a while back from CrazyPC...

then i found me an Alpha socket478 cooler... SWEET!!!

tried to install the thing but turns out that the springs for the Alpha was too tight and solid for me to push the mounting screws down on (the pad and the plate adds like 1/3in to the overall cooler dimensions)..

then i think to cut the springs down a bit and looked for my Dremel... turns out my dad LOST all the bits for it... even the key for the bits... <shrug> went to do it with a good old fashioned hacksaw and actually managed to saw all 4 springs to similar height...

fired up the P4 1.6a (running at 144FSB prior to this)... everything seems stable... check my temps... HOLY COW!!! i was running at 60F at 1.625v...

of course i try to up my speed... turns out everything holds but my Promise controller which craps out aroudn 38MHz on PCI... oh well... after all the effort i've only 33MHz more to show for it... but now my P4's running at 1.5v and 40-45F idle and 80F load :D

Must not be running a Epox i845 board cause those lock the AGP/PCI into their specs so they can't get out of them. Sucks about that part cause you could probably push it a lot higher. I'd ditch the promise card myself :D
