Oh, have I mentioned what a P.O.S. Windows Media Player 7 is?

I do not use Media Player 7. I never install it on my Win2K systems, and on my XP Lan party rig I use the secret undocumented installation of Media Player 6.4.

Media Player 7 is a resource hogging piece of CR@P.

I was watching some videos on my new lappy (the cool BF1942 vids I posted a link to in the Cheers forum) and couldn't believe how badly WMP 7 (which is installed by default - it's a WinME installation) ran on this thing. You could barely move the mouse while playing Divx videos (and this is a P3-800!). Checked the free resources and behold, it's down to 40% while it's playing!

So on a hunch I do a search for MPLAYER2.exe on the C drive and lo and behold it's there! This is Media Player 6.4 which (just like XP) comes secretly installed in WinME - there's just no shortcut for it.

Running my vids in 6.4 now and everything is running smoothly. I wipe my @SS with that code bloated WMP 7.

Phew.... sorry, had to vent :)

no shit! I hate WM7. All bubbly and loads real slow. I mean I never had the choppy video problem on my 1.7ghz lappy. I havenet even had that problem on my 800mhz Athlon classic. It is a win2k machine though. oh well. Thanks too, I never knew about that mediaplayer2.exe. I'm using that from now on.

Yeah, even if you install WMP7 on ANY system, it doesn't remove WMP6.x - it's still there although it may remove the icon for it. Just search the drive for MPLAYER2.EXE.

Then you have to change the file associations if you like to click on a file to run it.
