I'm ready to blow this thing up and start over. I got tired of all my games booting me back to the desktop. They don't close they just kick back like i did a alt tab on them. So last night i got pissed backed all my stuff up and put a fresh install of XP on here. Loaded all the drivers ICQ IRC and then slapped NFSHP2 on here. Guess what POOF back to the desktop. My install was getting slow had 6 mobo swaps so i figured it needed a good clean install and was hoping that would clear it all up. But it didn't. So it looks like its a hardware problem now. What i don't know. Its done it with a Rad 8500 and 9000 don't really think its the video card doinng it but who knows. Gonna start yanking out ram and may just get pissed even more and order a new motherboard and ram and give it yet another fresh install.

I've tried every version of the Cats and even went back to 2 non cat versions and it still does it. Its a total random thing. Sometimes it does it sometimes it don't.

Send everything to me, I know what to do with it. :D

My guess, as uneducated as it may be, would be either a heat issue or ram crapping out. I have no dynamite but my neighbor has a grenade launcher. BOOM!

At first i thought it was overlcoking. 1600+ at 1.9... backed it off to 1.75 still did it... i'm at default now still doing it. heat isn't an issue case temp 77F cpu temp 95F right now.... i'm gonna try pulling some ram out later on hope that is what it is...

I know i mentioned that in your other thread

don't have any ram to replace it with or i would... just took out 1 stick and overclocked to 1.9 gig 181 fsb... gonna test it for a while see if i can get it to do it again... if it goes a couple days and don't hiccup i'll put the other stick in and test it... It does it at even default speed but does it more overclocked so i figured i'd lay the test on it the hard way.

Well swapped sticks of ram around and i don't believe it is the ram... Doing it at all speeds either or both stick. wondering if it could be a problem with the monitor?? i wouldn't think it would be but you never know? Whatever it is its pissing me off to no end cause it only does it when i REALLY want to game i swear.

ah...

i only suggested the ram cuase I had a problem before too.
My games crashed at random times. 3dmark kept crashing. System randomly rebooted

It was my ram

I have 3 sticks. all are kingston pc2100 cl25

I got one stick of 256, one of 256-r, and one of 128
well the r-stick was bad. As soon as I took it out, the problems all went away

so now I am waiting for kingston to rma my bad stick (of ram I mean)

Check your GPU, maybe it f-cked up...you never know. My friend had the same probelm, windows/games crashing at random..changed MOBO + PSU .... didn't work. I tested the RAM myself and it was OK.

Come to find out, 2 weeks later, his videocard was dead (Geforce2 Ti200) ...replaced it with a new videocard, and it's been running like a champ since then.

Let me know if you've any questions

About the monitor: Doubt its the monitor. These symptoms would only display themselves if you were trying to run the games at some really jacked up settings that the monitor couldn't handle. And even then, you would just be looking at a blank screen rather than the desktop.
