thinking about doing a mouse mod

Post by marscheese »

the one with the window...I'm sure you've all seen it (if not go here ). Anywho, I was wondering if you could change the LED inside the mouse and still have the mouse work. Like say, if you wanted to take out the red light and put in a different colour...would that f*ck up the mouse? Just wanted to ask before I did something stupid ;)

thanks in advance.

Don't Think So.....

Post by eGoCeNTRoNiX »

I don't see why it would mess up the mouse as long as you don't get the saulder (sp?) all over the place and short something out. But if you're talking about the laser that senses movement of the mouse, I don't think I'd mess with it. But the other guys may have some different opinions or ideas about that. I'm thinking of modding my mouse as well.. But I'm gonna put a dragon's head in mine. Either that or an old MOTU head. Dunno for sure yet. But whatever you decide to do, GOOD LUCK!~ eGo

The light is used to light the desk surface so the CCD chip in the mouse can see the surface imperfections clearly (this is how it tells what direction you're moving).

Other colors may not work as well since the CCD may be tuned to red light. You'll have to experiment. A lot is going to depend on the surface you use the mouse on as well.
