Hey Guys.. I have an old lappy P200MMX that works wonderfully except for one thing.. The floppy drive will read disks.. But ONLY if they were formatted by the lappy. And if I do that, I can't read the disks in any other computer. Any idea what I can do to fix this, and what causes this problem? If it needs to be replaced, I guess I can't complain, the lappy is 5 years old and working just as well today as the day I bought it. :) eGo

***BTW... IF anyone has a solution to this, it would help me to get the Lappy back up and folding.. ;)

Is it a toshba laptop ? They use to have defective floppy drives. You might also check if it's formatting to 1.2megs instead of 1.4, although I don't think that would be a problem.

Hmmm...

It's actually a KeyNote. But it does have a lot of Toshiba parts in it. It is formatting them to 1.44. I haven't checked to see what kind of floppy it is though. Will do that tonight. Someone once mentioned the floppy cable might be bad. Anyone know how easy this is to fix? All opinions and ideas welcomed!! eGo
