question about ram

Post by RaT »

i wanna upgrade the ram on one of my old systems (it's actually the 1st one i built with help from you guys ) :)

i'm not too familiar with the "ram terms" and all.

it currently has this "Kingston ValueRam 256MB-6ns CL3 PC133 32x64 KVR133X64C3/256"

what exactly does the "32x64" mean? if add on another 512mb will the following be compatible? "Kingston ValueRam 512MB-6ns CL3 PC133 64x64 KVR133X64C3/512 "

i noticed that its "64x64" instead of "32x64". what's that all about?

the 32x64 and 64x64 is referring to the size of each ram chip.

the numbers are the terms for RAM that means how much the ram is. just divide the second number by 8 (because it there are 8 bits in a byte) and then multiply that number by the first number.

so 32x64 (64/8=8....8x32=256)

the 32x64 is 256 MB and the 64x64 is 512 MB
