Could be the power supply. Is it when the computer is off, or just when its on or what?

Speakers...

Have you tried unplugging your speakers? Sometimes the speakers can cause this squeal you're talking about. If unplugging them makes it go away check your properties in the Volume Control Panel and adjust the levels to try and get rid of it. I had that problem with mine and that's how I got rid of it. If that doesn't work, try new speakers.. eGo

monitors can do it too... ...while your computer is on, turn off your monitor and see if you can notice it go away....

hey. i just had a pretty similar prob, and it turned out to be the psu. mine turned out to be bad, but that doesn't hafta be the case. could just be the fan, not the whole psu.

Great Ideas Guys !!
but it isn't the monitor
when computers off theres no noise
and i would know if it was the speakers :)

(could it be the modem?)although it can't! because whenever i got to load something (EG. a game) the sound will create a higher pitch.

(the hard drive?)Nope! i switched the hard dive with my spare and the sound still consisted

(the MoBo) I don't know how to tell if its from there?

**(PSU) i think it makes the sound when it draws power from it???**

TIA all!

thx,
Jordan :)

My second guess would be a PSU. I've experienced similar problems with an older PSU.

well, there should be a fan on the motherboard. usually near the cpu socket/slot. that would be the only thing that could make that noise on the mobo. check to make sure its clear, moving freely, etc. (make sure its turned off and unplugged first)

since its not the HD, very likely its the mobo or psu, or the heatsink. have u checked the heatsink?

hey i have to tell u that i have the same problem too , but not too much .
I found just something that would help to fix it ,
HEYYYYYYYYY check this out !
I realize that when the sound is worse and I make a click on the upper right cross in any window and hold the left mouse botton for a while It's seem to be a little bit lower the sound level changed ! it is so strange , could be the PSU I dont know if the PSU may CHANGE the sound because of the different frame rate or movement on the screen or just hold a button, but could be something from the mobo or something like that i dont know
1 no monitor
2 no speakers
3 no HD
4 no cd
5 no dvd
6 no modem
7 no fans
I was removing that stuff.

so we have :
VIDEO CARD ?
PSU?
USB MOUSE?
USB's ports?
I bet is the video card !!!! I not sure .
WE NEED THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE FORUMMMMMMMMMM- PREDATOR HELP !!!!!!!!!
IF WERE THE PSU HOW WE CAN FIX IT , PLZ DONT TELL ME BUY A NEW ONE .

sureeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

If you're CERTAIN it's the PSU, and the squeal is electronic and is definately affected by a change in current draw, then what you're hearing is accoustic leakage from the switching transistors in the PSU.

Monitor high voltage power supplies can also do this. I have a monitor that "sings" at a very high frequency when there's a lot of white on the screen.

If you're young or (like me) have excellent hearing (can hear beyond 17KHz) it can be quite annoying. Moreover your friends or office workers will think you're insane because they can't hear it. Few people over 35 can hear anything beyond 15K (and even if you're young but listen to a LOT of loud music, you've probably blown your high frequency hearing as well).

I used to be a sound engineer and test my hearing regularly and happy to report that as of last year I could still hear over 21K.

Nothing you can do except replace the PSU. Sell the old one to someone who can't hear it :)

hahaha yeah i checked my hearing a while back it was over 23 or something, but yeah it drives me and a few other peeps insane and well others (old) don't notice.
(ps it drives my 2 puppies CrAzY!)

I can still hear it when a TV or monitor's horizontal oscillator is off frequency. It's actually painfully annoying :)
