1 yr hardrive waruntee?? what the...

Post by canton_kid »

I looked for a post on this as I thought I saw something about it awhile back.

But what the heck is going on with hardrives now? 1YR warauntees?? Down from 3yr, is this supposed to give me confidence in their drives so I rush out and buy a bunch of upgrades?

I just looked at Newegg and TCWO, both have 1 yr, although Egg still has some of the "older" 3 yr ones listed like my 60gig maxtor. Both WD and Maxtor, all I looked at were 1yr on the new stuff.

This move in down grading makes me think they are turning out junk now and I should be happy with the older smaller drives I have instead of buying new as planned! If this move is because they are having such a high failure rate it costs them alot of money, that does not help me want to buy new drives either!

Perhaps they should all slow down and stop making such big drives and concentrate on making more reliable drives that last longer. After all, better for them to sell 3 60gigs than one 180gig! Just get the M/B maunufactorers to add more Ide ports like 8 instead of just 4. Nearly all cases seem to have more bays than a M/b will support drives any way (with out extra cards or Raid).

Perhaps it doesn't really matter thet much, most the drives (CD burner and hardrives) I had go bad were in the first 4-6 months anyway. But, it still shakes me to see they no longer have any confidence in their own products!!! SO why should I??

prior thread about this: http://www.pcabusers.net/forums/showthr ... adid=21664

Its a move done to cut costs.

The WD Caviar SE still has a 3 years warranty.
