F**k no. I've had three 60GXPs, all have needed to be RMA'd. I'll stick to WD and Maxtor for now.

Ive had a 75GXP for about 1 year now .... no problems what so ever.
Of course it is cooled.
I heard most of the IBMs that failed have not been cooled.
Im not saying you should cool a HDD....I dont think you should have to have a fan on your HDD.
Just that in my case it sits infront of a fan and I have had 0 problems with it. In fact I love it.

I've never had a IBM drive and I don't plan on having one.

2 60GXP's running in a mirror right now. no fan or cooling watsoever and not much probs

My 60GXP has a dual cooler since day one when I bought it 12 months ago. I've had no problems with the drive, but I doubt I'll buy another death star soon.Originally posted by RubberDuckie

all of mine had direct cooling. Didn't stop them from dying.

Some gentlemen is having weird sounds with his Deathstars, contacted IBM about it and this is what happened:

They too told me to back it up but if I am to return it they would power it up, not see the problem and they would ship it out again. I said, "Are you serious??". Yep they were. Of course they asked me if I used their utilities which I said yes and they didn't find a problem and they told me that it could be fragmented. So seeing how it is running NTFS and NTFS is supposed to be good for fragmentation I took a look. Not a problem.
But thanks everyone and definitely I'm going to back this drive up. I suspect a month or two it will go belly up"

Oh c'mon now...are you all forgetting? These things run in cycles. There was a time when WD was the balls-worst HDD mfgr and their drives were crashing more than a liquored up hooker in a Ferrari on Friday night. And at that time IBM drives were the best. Then Maxtor was the best and now they're kinda fading out a little and WD took over again. I think they just take turns on who works out the kinks in the latest technology first. I'm sure IBM will be good again at some point.
