About the Hercules GTXP's coming out now

Post by sbp »

Hercules has released the Game Theater XP Theatre 7.1 with a downgraded chip compared to what that soundcard line used before. http://www.3dsoundsurge.com/cgi-bin/www ... o=7&fpart=

Also, now the GXTP 6.1 is coming with the CS4624 soundchip instead of the CS4630 like it had before. This thread reveals this sad fact: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthr ... eadid=2296

This means the Game Theater XP line uses the same soundchip as their Fortissimo line does. Maybe this move was done to save money? That's not to say the CS4624 is a bad chip, but the CS4630 is more powerful. IMO its semi-sneaky of Hercules to release the GTXP 7.1 and now the GTXP 6.1 with a chip not as good.

What's going to be the result? The older GTXP 6.1's remaining are going to be snapped up. The Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, which uses the CS4630 soundchip, will benefit from this move.
