I don't know if it was a fluke on my system, but when it installed the IE 6.1 patch it also turned on a security setting that prevented me from opening or saving any attachments. Pissed me off for a while until I figured it out.

I'll post this whole thread I found on it - interesting to know how to enable this selectively in some situations. You can prevent OE from opening certain file types, Might be handy in an office environment or on your grandma's computer:

Here's how you can turn off the restriction for a particular file type: start Windows Explorer by right-clicking the Start button and picking Explore. Now go to Tools... Folder Options and pick the File Types tab. Scroll down until you find the kind of file you want to exempt, such as ''jpeg image,'' highlight it and pick Edit. Uncheck the box that reads Confirm Open After Download and that will effectively exempt the file from Outlook Express restrictions. If you don't find the box checked, then the files you're getting may not really be jpeg photos.

If you would like to completely disable the restriction on attachments -- knowing that this will make you much more vulnerable to viruses -- you can do so from within Outlook Express 6. Go to Tools...Options...Security and uncheck the box that says ``Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus.

I just downloaded it on my work computer. I didn't have time to play with it though.
