Win2K SP3 install goes badly...

Post by FlyingPenguin »

Well I just had a bad experience with Win2K SP3. I tried installing it on my home server and now I get a BSOD related to a SCSI driver. Must have something to do with tht Maxtor ATA133 controller I have installed on it.

Once again being anal retentive has saved my ass. I ALWAYS make a Ghost image before doing anything like this. You never know when something will go wrong.

Dunno why that happened and don't really care to worry about it now. This is only a file & printer server and SP2 is good enough for now. I don't use the internet on it and most of the SP3 updates are security patches.

Still, that's the first time in a long time I've had an SP install go bad. I'll have to see if there's an updated driver for that controller and try again.

I've installed SP3 on my other two systems here with no problems.

I remember reading it's a known problem and if you copy the SP2 version of the file it works perfectly fine.
