When I turn the comp on it won't boot. Fans turn on, HDD spins, floppy drive and cd-roms light up, but it won't go to windows or bios. If I hit the reset button it will boot to windows. Also if I reboot it doesn't have any problem. Any ideas?
I just put some spare parts together and was going to sell them. They all worked befor. The mobo did have an 800 duron in it befor though. I'm going to flash the bio's next.
Specs.
MSI KT7 turbo
retail 1600+
gf 4mx 420
Viking ram pc133
I've reset the cmos, swapped the parts I could. Tore it apart, then put everthing back together. triple checked the connections. I'm not finding anything.

Try flashing the bios but to me it almost sounds like its having a power issue on bootup. Is that board a kt133a board? not real familiar with the MSI boards. Most kt133a board have issues with XP CPU's so that could very well be the problem right there.

I was wondering if it would be the xp. The product page said it supports them though. http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=100&MODEL=MS-6330%20Ver3.0
I may have to find a t-bird for it. The XP is running pretty warm 51C. The duron ran 42C.

EDIT:Flashing the bios didn't help. I put the duron back in and it boots like it should.

Sounds like your hard drive needs more time to boot up... Do you have a setting in your bios to allow a longer time to find the hard drive? If you do, then you should set it higher...

I just received a 1700+ from PreDatoR and put it in there. It booted several times with no problem. strange.
