Found this via Google today - it's a VERY complete list of possible background apps that may appear in MSCONFIG's Startup tab, and descriptions of what they are.

I've been building up one of these myself - amazing the crap that's running in the background on some of my clients systems.

Definitly nice. Book markin' that page :) Though, I looked up a couple things I found running in my backaround (CTSvCDA.exe for example) and the page said it wasn't required (which I'm sure is true) but when I tried to end the process (using Win2k) it said it couldn't close the application "access denied" (and I'm logged in as an admin).
