I've been thinking that I'll keep SCSI for the Hard Drives and wait for SATA for the Optical drives. My 12x SCSI Plex is holding me for now. I did hear a rumor about Plex doing some SCSI stuff this fall so I'll have to wait and see.

My next system will include SCSI even though I guess for HDD only. The Cheetah 15k.3 should be available when I build my next rig, that'll be my bootdrive for OS and main games.

IMHO, the only thing that needs to be SCSI is the HDD(s). The other things don't really matter that much as they're seldom used and their speed isn't essential in comparison.
A SCSI HDD system (even the 18g X15) isn't THAT expensive to me for a PC that you use daily. If I was building budget PCs for others, then I'd seek cheaper alternatives.

I dunno... there is something to be said for copying 600megs worth of files from one CD to another with only 2% CPU utilization.

That type of thing matters to me because I do lots of mass file transfers for work.

I'm sure that there's good reasons to own SCSI cd and burner drives but for me at home, I rarely use either. I use a cd-rom drive if and when installing new software (rare these days) and very rarely burn cds either and when I do, the 5-10 minute burn time (now "old" Plex burner) is no big deal to me.
