Problem wit Athlon XP1800+

Post by sabwafare2001 »

I have a ECS KS57A rev. 1 motherboard with the latest BIOS, 6/26/02, and I installed my 1800+. It 1st showed the speed as 1150mhz, so I went into the BIOS and changed the frequency to 100mhz/133mhz, and it rebooted as usual. The speed still showed as 1150mhz, so I went into the BIOS again and changed it to 133mhz/133mhz, but this time it did not post, a signal didn't go to the monitor. Even when I had only my hard drive and floppy, it didn't post. So I cleared the BIOS and changed it back to 100/133 with the speed as 1150mhz. I have a Allied 400W psu thats on the AMD recomended list. I tried this with my 300W psu but it didn't post on 100/100. 133/133 worked with my other cpu which was a AMD Athlon 1.0 T-Bird. Please give me any suggestions on what I can do to get this to work.

Look for a 100/133 jumper on the motherboard. :)

Good news, windows gave me an update for the cpu. So I decided to remove the CMOS jumper. I cut the computer off and removed the the jumper for the CMOS, rebooted it, changed it to 133mhz/133mhz and it showed as Athlon XP1800+. Then it booted as normal until I put the jumper back on and I rebooted again, but it did not post. So then I took it off, the jumper, and it did not post again. So I cleared the CMOS (which I found out that it can be cleared only by moving the jumper and not taking out the battery and without disconnecting the psu) and removed the jumper completely booted it back up, wented into BIOS to change to it to 133/133 and it booted right up again. So I rebooted a couple of times to make sure it would work and it did.
Is it possible that I could see future problems?
