Hello all, my sister is wanting to buy a digital camera. She has about $300 to spend and wants at least 2megapixel but would prefer 3. She also wants the zoom feature not the digital zoom but the other kind that works better. I have never owned a dgi cam myself so I am at a loss as to what to tell her to get or even if she can get what she wants with the money she has to spend. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

At amazon.com "Through July 31, you can get a free 32 MB memory card when you purchase a digital camera with a resolution of 2 megapixels or more-"

This Fuji some at anands are doing a 110% pricematch with staples then use their 40 off 200 coupon.

279.98 - $72.64 (110% PM) - $40 (coupon)= 167.34 + tax

Review on that Fuji. I have the version with no optical zoom and I love it, takes great pics even in total darkness.

It is 2.1 mp, not 3 megapixel. If you like it and don't wish to go through that staples pm hassle, this place has it for $205.

It is 3x optical zoom, which is real zoom.

Here is the camera I use and it's $119 at compgeeks, but that's a refurb one. No optical zoom either.

HP 2.3 mp $198 at wal mart online. *free shipping Good camera and 3x optical but not pocket size.

Otherwise check reviews at any you might consider at these good sites:

You can get smartmedia real cheap now at newegg. I'm not familar with the 3 mp ones and the ones I checked on were all higher than 300.

btw, the Fuji cameras I mentioned use smartmedia while the HP uses compactflash as the memory.

Any questions, just ask. :)

*Also if her budget is $300 then one of those around $200 may be best. Bcause she'll want extra memory and nimh batteries, that is if she plans to use it a lot.

I have an older 1.2 fuji and i got my dad a 2.1 fuji like the chimp's last year for xmas - i have been very pleased with them - though the older one is starting to to wear a little bit - they are very easy to use - the only real issue with mine is that downloading the pics to the pc requires a rudimentary knowledge of windows files systems which is "difficult" to impart to some users :)

i think the geeks also had the kodak one that comes with its own docking/recharging station - so all of that is transparent to the user - i'd check at at hot deals, apex, etc. - someone always has a special on a decent one

Staples are very unpredictable. Some stores will do it right while others will intentionally be a pain in the butt. Thats why I don't hassle with those price matches anymore. But I think others have had luck when calling their online store at staples.com and ordering it online.

I did't try it, was just mentioning it in case anyone wanted to. Anyway I am happy with the camera I have.

Dang John, that is a good deal. Camera deals seem to keep getting better and better.

Only thing I don't like about HP's is they are a bit larger than I like and they use compact flash. I prefer smartmedia, mostly because I have a lot of it. :D
