Buddy of mine has an IBM 60GXP the thing gets data corruption all the time and he has to reformat or ghost it about once a week. So he decides to RMA it with IBM and they tell him that they will not do the cross shipment thing anymore and he has to send his back to them and within 14 day they will send it back if they have it in stock. Then they tell him that the warehouse for their HDD's is overseas and it might take longer. When did they change their policy ?

I don't know... about 4 or 5 months ago i had a 40 gig 60GXP die on me... Did the same thing data corruption would have to format and reinstall... I sent it in and it was 11 days from the date i sent it in the new one got to me... I never asked for a cross ship. Cause i already had a 40 Gig Maxtor D740X show up that replaced it. And once i got it back from RMA it was sold...

I think they were asked to warehouse all the "deathstar" drives overseas for safety preasons ;)

that's a drag that they won't x ship

i've been waiting a week for some HP warranty hd's for the office - i think the keep forgetting to send them out - they are usually pretty good

I have a 60GXP 40 gig, and so far so good. In September of this year, it will be one year old. I heard that the 75GXP's are the ones with most of the problems. I've never had a single problem with my drive, but I do have a HD cooler on it (dual fan). With the summer heat, it runs about 35-37°C most of the time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it won't fail. If it does, no biggie, as I'll go out and buy a cheap Maxtor or WD IDE as a storage drive, and move on to a SCSI 9 gig boot drive.

I think it is the luck of the draw. I have a 75GXP that is over 2 years old and it has always worked flawlessly. Mine is also in a hdd cooler. It is just disappointing that IBM has changed their policy on RMA's. Next drive I will be going back to Maxtor.
