usually on most pc's you usually press the delte key but on the compaq the delete key does not seem to get me into the bios. Thanks

Hit the F10 key right after the COMPAQ splash screen shows a cursor in the upper right corner.

If it's a new laptop, you should have gotten a "Getting Started" booklet with a Documentation CD. On the booklet it tells you how to change the "Power On Password" . That is how you get to the bios.

Try F10, F2, Shift+F2

Compaq has an excellent online reference BTW. If you go to their site, you can download a PDF manual for your laptop.
