LCD screen advantages?

Post by sithlink »

hey...after spending the weekend at my cousin's place looking at a flat screen monitor im tempted to get one for myself. what are the advantages of LCD over CRT monitors other than the compact size and the slick looks? i recall reading that LCD flat screens at better for the eyes, is that true? do LCD screens use less electricity? do they produce less heat? i hear the refresh rates aren't that great on LCDs. is it worth switching to LCD screens?

You answered most of your own questions :) Yes, less power and heat. Easier on the eyes, they don't flicker and refresh like a CRT. Refresh rate is not important with an LCD like a CRT. The important thing with an LCD, if you want to play games or watch movies is the response time. The pixels have a rise and fall time and the total of the two should be no more than 25 ms for a decent gaming LCD screen. Otherwise you will see ghosting with fast movement like on an FPS game. But if you aren't gonna game, for text and internet, LCD is just a whole lot easier to look at for long periods. Hehe, I've almost talked myself into one.
