I just burned a audio CD today, and to my suprize, the speed test (to make sure the Burner's buffers stay full) said that i would have to burn at 2X because the source (my HDD) wasn't fast enough! it used to be able to go as fast as the burner (8X8X32) but now, WHOA! I'm having this problem on my windows98SE parition, i think i may have to reinstall windows soon, whats going on to make it does this?!

oh yeah, i'm using NTI-CD MAKER 2000 PRO as the burnin' program. not sure if it's the program or windows, it can't possibly be the HDD/controller, could it?! my HDD is a 30GB 5400RPM 9.5MS seek Western Digital however only 20GB is seen to windows (the rest is for linux). what you guys think, should i go ahead and reinstall windows, see if that fixes it (and i think it will) or is there some problem with hardware?

THANKS!

I would have to say its the program. EZ CD Creator used to give me this crap, so I got Nero Burning Rom instead-problem solved. However, I would also try defragmenting your HD and making sure you have UDMA enabled on your drives.

Another vote for Nero.

Also check your Device manager and make sure you don't have any error on your hard drive controller.
