I know I posted this in the wrong forum...but I could not delete it once posted.

What would be good recommended temps for
1. Case
2. CPU (I have Athlon XP 1800+ and DON'T overclock)

I like a quiet computer so how warm can things safely get?

I have an XP1800+ cooled by a V7 and my max cpu temp is below 40-42C, most of the time. I'm thinking 45C and lower is good.

I have a xp1800 cooled with a Thermaltake Volcano 6cu and a 60mm fan on it moving about 23 cfm
My temps are about 44c underload and 42 ambient. But I know it is a little high cause my room is unreasonably warm.

I want to either upgrade my HSF to a AX-7 or just jump right into watercooling. But I think the WCing will be later on since it is expensive.

But I have found that normal temps can range anywhere between 33c-45c. If it gets over 45, I think its too hot

My case stays right around 30C and my processor around 45C with a bigass house fan blowing it on because my room is always super hot. This is an 1800+ w/ SK6 and 7K RPM Delta fan on it.

It really depends on which motherboard you have...because older mobo's read the temperature from below the CPU, while newer ones read the temp from inside the cpu core of the Athlon XP. If you have a mobo with a diode below the CPU, temps from 40-50 are normal, while if you have one that reads the core temps, 50-60 are normal. Case temps from 25-35 are normal, near 40 is too hot IMHO.

why do most of you think anything above 45-50 c is too hot? thats about half the max temp of 90 c for athlon. my athlon 1.4ghz runs from 45-55c. these temps are read with a hardwired temp probe on the core ,only way to get it cooler is to run it with the side off then it only drops to 38c. im running a volcano 6 with an 80mm fan lol
