PC Card problem..

Post by Sean »

Ok, well, I am trying to get my dad's work laptop working on the network, and I asked him how I could get the thing out, just so I could look at it. Well, he popped it out, right after it gave its warning. I thought nothing of it. Turned off the Lappy and stuck it in and hit the power switch.. Turned on fine, but it won't detect the card anymore.. Under PCMIA (or something like that) it says both slots are empty. My dad says that he had done this before, but what happened? Did I fry the network PC Card (which by the way has the model number of: 3CXFE575BT, It's a 3Com Megahertz 10/100 LAN CardBus PC Card with XJAZK Connector). Before I decided to take it out, it would not detect our DHCP server. Everything for the TCP settings were set to "Find DHCP Server," etc... When I went into winipcfg, it says Multimedia device not found or something..

When I look at the online documentation for this card, it only has NT and 95 instructions. My dad's office recently reformatted the HDD, and WERE going to install XP Pro, but since the internal modem didn't work (they were too lazy to find drivers) they installed ME!!!! So, now my dad is struck with shitty ME, and we think its ME causing the problems... I don't know much about laptops, and the best specs I can give you for my dad's laptop are the following:

Hewlett-Packard Omnibook XE2 (no other characters..)
Pentium III 450 Mhz
256mb PC133 (I think)
6 GB HDD
Win ME (yuck)
2 PC Card slots, one fits this LAN Card, the other looks bigger, and has ZV on the little switch that ejects the card...

That's about all I know... ;)

PLEASE HELP ME OUT! :-\

Have you looked in the control panel to see if it disabled itself when it was removed ? I had an IBM ThinkPad that would do that.
