Getting rid of the shortcut arrow on icons

Post by Executioner »

This is really werid...I'm running Win98 and I have installed TweakUI. The stupid shortcut arrow on icons was removed with this utility, but the arrow is back now for some reason, and it will not go away no matter what I do. Here is what I have tried so far:
1. I deleted the ShellIconCache file located in the \Windows folder.
2. Using TweakUI, I selected the arrow again, then tried to go back to no arrow.
3. Using TweakUI, I had it repair the icons associations.
4. In desktop settings, I changed the size of the icons and then changed it back.

No luck. Anyone have any ideas? I don't remember when this first started either. My best guess would be a few days ago. I have no viruses on my system.

I hate those shortcut arrows too and have always used microangelo to get rid of them. You use the "engineer" part to disable the arrows. Works great. ;)

OK thanks. Once I use Microangelo to disable the arrows, will it remain removed if the program gets un-installed?

I've never uninstalled it so I don't know if you do, if it'll add back in the arrows. But leaving it installed doesn't bother anything.

Here's a link I found for mike98

Hey, that program did the trick. Arrows are now removed. Once I clicked on the rebuild icons, they are now all toast. Still can't figure out why TweakUI no longer works on performing this function. Oh well. Thanks again for the help.
