I know there was a comparision between 2 IBM GXP60's in raid or something, and a WD1200JB, but i cant find it and I don't remember which one is faster

i've got a western digital 30 gig 7200 drive already, but if i resell its only gonna get me 55 USD or so...so it would be cheaper for me to pick another one of these up and go raid than it would to go for a WD800JB

but which one is faster?

Which drive is your current WD 7200, knowing this would make it easier to compare to WD800JB.

The RAID-0 will be faster for Sustained Transfer Rate, so when you move a lot of big files between partitions it'll be your first choice. STR heavy usage is not the norm for most people, regular usage and gaming is more access time heavy.
RAID-0 will only add the STR from both drives to almost double the performance yet access times remain the same. I checked Storagereview and the WD800JB easily beats the regular WD 7200 drives in most tests which certainly comes from the huge 8MB cache.

I don't know the direct comparison between the RAID-0 and a single drive but I'd say the WD800JB will be faster in most regular situations ... dunno if ya will see a real difference, that depends on your current drive.

That's not a very new drive ... the WD800JB might even come close to the STR of RAID-0 WD300BB's. Storagereview did not review the WD300BB but I compared it to an earlier drive and the WD400BB and the WD800JB has a clear advantage.

hmm...sounds like swapping out the HD is a good idea then
