Maxtor Liquid Bearing HDD, 6L040L2...Opinions?

Ok, right now I have an IBM 60GXP hard drive. It makes a little noise, but not much. Are the Maxtor Liquid Bearing drives quieter than the 60GXP, or about the same? The reason I ask is because I will be migrating to WinXP soon, and I don't really have anything to back up my computer on. Besides, I'd like to get some fancy partition work going.. I currently have one huge 40gb partition, and I'd like to create Partitions for important Data, programs, and windows.

Would anyone reccommend these hard drives?

dunno how much quiter it is, but I have the non-fluid bearing maxtor drives (two 40gig in RAID-0) and I've not had a single problem with them. I can't even hear them, really. And I don't necessarily think it's the noise from the fans covering it up, because I have 3 extra 80mm fans total and two of them are running at half the speed (I have a lian-li and you can control them somewhat)

You can check out some reviews of these and other drives over at http://www.storagereview.com I believe the fastest IDE drives right now are the 100gig Western Digital drives

Yeah, I know about the 8mb Cache ones. Who woulda thought 100 Gb would be faster than 40gb.. LOL.

I am looking at storage space around 40-60 GB. If there was a Liquid bearing 60gb, I would probably be looking at it, but there's only a 40 and 80..

There is a liquid bearing 60GB drive.....6L060L3 is the model number. Newegg.com used to carry them but obviously they don't anymore.

Yeah, I noticed that. If I find a good price on a 60Gb, I might go with that.

I have the 60gb and its running quiet and trouble free but cant compare to IBM as the only IBM's I ever owned were both duds and I'll never try them again.

My case fan noise is louder than the hd so you have to look at the total noise output of your box.
