Well, as it turns out, the reason WPCREDIT isn't working is because I have a wireless network adapter hooked into it (USB). When I unhooked, my temp dropped from around 100 F to 72 F. Yes, a HUGE difference. How can I fix this? Could it be some wireless network program working in the background, or does this stupid USB thing always refresh, constantly keeping the CPU and HDD busy?

I always have to unhook it to run Defragmentor or ScanDisk, and that gets pretty annoying..

Any ideas here? Do NetPCI Adapters do the same thing? Cause if they don't, oh well. I have no choice, not cat5 hookup, wireless is my only option.. (Yes, for both network and internet).

Which Wireless USB NIC are you using. I've tried the Linksys and I'm not crazy about it - their PCI card version works better.

I know the USB version runs a background app, but not sure about the PCI version - don't think so as I remember.

A note for you: if you DO uninstall the USB NIC, I've foudn that the uninstaller will NOT remove the background app, or the reference to it in the registry that rusn it on boot up. You'll need to manually remove it using MSCONFIG.

Hmm. Ok, well, I have the background ap turned off (it has a program that shows reception) but I think there might be one that doesn't show up in the bottom bar.

some wireless NICs also have a setting for "scan type"... if you have it set on active you may want to try passive
