Win98 doesn't need an Autoexec.bat file, right?

Installed Diskeeper 7 and it added a line like "path = %something%" or something like that. After I uninstalled Diskeeper and the line was left in there (that's the only line by the way). So I deleted the line, um, actually I was daydreaming and deleted the whole file. But the machine seems to be working fine.

Oh, does anyone have a preferred defragmenter program?

Nah, you shouldn't need it. It's only used to load certain programs to memory during bootup and if the only thing it was loading was a program you don't even have anymore, then you should be fine without it.

As for defragging, I just use the Windows one :) If ya don't know where it is, just right-click on the drive you want to defrag, go down to "properties" then click on the "tools" tab...

The actual purpose is to provide a "path" to the location of the program in DOS or Windows. When I was using Diskeeper, it had the same line in the autoexec.bat file; however, it was not properly added to the path statement because it exceeded the 160 bits allowed by DOS. I don't remember the exact verbage of the error message, but I deleted with no problems amd Diskeeper.

How come you guys are getting rid of Diskeeper? I am using it in XP Pro and it works great. Much better and faster than the native defragger or Nortons Speed Disk.

The reason it's faster than Nortons because it does not move any files. It only de-fragments files.
