PC Mark 2002 hd score differences?

Just downloaded and ran the program on my two computers to compare and have a surprising hd result.

Both computers run winME on amd 761 cs motherboards, one a gigabyte 7dxr and the fast one an epox 8k7a, both set for network server and fat 32.

The GA-7dxr only scored 1016 on the hd portion while the Epox 8k7a scored 1916.

The epox runs 2 quantum 40gb ata 100 AS model hard drives, master and slave while the gigabyte runs a maxtor 60gb ata 133 and a quantum 30gb ata 100 AS.

Where should I be looking for the problem? Would my amd or via drivers be the problem? The gigabyte calls the hard drives generic while the epox lists them at quantum fireball AS models.

Epox XP1800+ 4498/3118/1916

Gigabyte XP2000+ 4735/3185/1016

Help me out or throw me a bone please :D

From what I have seen, PCMark is a broken benchmark. Some results make no sense at all. Every test on appears to be highly cache-dependant.

For example, the same harddrive in ATA66 and ATA100 modes will give you different results (which is nonsense). I have seen PCMark give widely varying results on all its scores on very similar set ups.

Why is a differnt score between ata66 and 100 nonsense poop... God are you that dense... 33mbps more bandwidth will give a different score...DUH!!!! no matter if its just burst rate or not its a difference. I suppose next your gonna tell us there's no difference between 5400 rpm drives and 7200 rpm drives.... Blackhawk i'd check and make sure the drives are running ata100 first off... a single ata100 drive should score between 700-800 from what i have seen... your scores actually seem way to high to me. now if they were in raid there would be a big difference like that. Are those drives u call quantums actual quantums or maxtor's with quantum parts?? Also there's a high possiblitly that your Maxtor drive is crippled... This meaning there's an accoustical managment program that maxtor has on tis drives.... with this turned on it slowsthe seek times of the drives down so that the drive is quieter... This however screws up performance. It might be worth going to maxtor's site and downloading that program.. It does need to be ran in dos but i've done it and it improved my scores in hdtach sandra and pcmark by enough to make a difference... I've got a fluid bearing drive so its quiet anyways. why they have this enabled from the factory is beyong me...

I'm checking the maxtor site now.

The quantums are all quantum and the other thing is that in sisoft, the maxtor outscores the other computers quantum but reverse that in pc mark 2k.

I am not a moron.

I think PCMark is broken. I have seen too many wierd results with it.

ATA100 is not 33% faster than ATA 66. In terms of overall system performance, you are looking at 5% MAX. Probably more like 1%.

You want to call me a moron? Fine. You never make any good points or even try to refute my points. I'll put my Masters degree in computer engineering against your obviously meager knowledge of cache issues anyday.

You show me in my post where i called you a moron first off... I was sarcastic yes in no way did i call you a moron. And you can take your wonderful degree and stuff it right up your @$$ for all i care... You just got the degree for one and just got a job not too long ago and have very little experience. You always act like you just know everything there is to know, don't matter what forum your in your like this... Frankly it gets old and i'm sure there are plenty others that will agree with that... Prove that ATA66/100/133 that there is hardly any difference... I wanna see you take that master degree in "Computer Engineering" and actually use it to prove that... Take your ever so wonderful degree and use it to prove that ATA100/133 is no better than ATA66 all i've seen is you spout off about it so far. Who wants to place a bet that he can't do it???
you are looking at 5% MAX. Probably more like 1%.

Probably more like 1%... That means you have no idea...

sigh... semantics
God are you that dense
The liberal arts aspect of my education tells me that arguing over semantics is the sign of no support for one's argument. So is calling me dense, and attacking me as a person. But then again, that is my wasted time in classes and all.

You are the one here who appears to be ignorant of how cache and burst mode work. I have produced factual support of my side, and then I try to support myself with some credentials, which obviously mean nothing to you.

I give up. If you want to spend your time tweaking for a benchmark that is broken, so be it. I am still going to support my opinion that PCMark (in its present build) is broken. If you still feel like calling me stuff for it, fine.

Where are these so called facts i've yet to see anything from you other than a lot of nothing... And yes your degree means jack shit to me. Your right out of college and just think your billy badass with your pretty little degree and all... I bet you have it hanging on the wall above your computer desk don't you? I don't tweak my system at all for PCMark i think it sucks myself... Ifs just the simple fact that you act like you know it all and then never back up anything with any of these so called facts or proof.

Yeah fully agree you've yet support your arguement with any facts. Just endless psycho babble is all i've seen...

If you ask me that degree is just another think to wipe my a$$ with after taking a large healthy poop :p

really that littl e peice of paper does not mean jack sh!t

there is a huge difference between ata 33 , 66 , but the difference between is not that much between 66, and 100 ... no it also depends on the drive you are using to see the difference .. like some drives will be faster and some wont even though they both claim to be a ata 100 or whatever drive

so poop stop acting like you are the all high and mighty of knowledge and start listening to some of the people here and not that 80 year old grandpa professor that explains computer stuff to you while using a commadore 64 when explaining it ! :p

I too question the HDD scores as my 15,000 rpm SCSI Cheatah Seagate X15s (which have been been tested and posted at Radboys site here using a HDD benchmark program with a slower cpu, worse ram and did great then) does not test well with PC Mark 2002 and yet it should. It's then my opinion that I'd also question this program as I know my HDDs aren't slow compared to others, no way.
The cpu score doesn't look great but the ram score went way up after switching from PC-133 (old mobo) to Samsung PC2700 DDR.

cpu went from 3076 (1ghz t-bird cpu) to 3728 (1.4 ghz t-bird cpu, still at 1.4 until my new hs/fan arrives)
memory went from 1744 (Muskin high perf PC-133, KT7-raid) to 3424 (new ram, not OCd yet, Shutlle AK31)
HDD scored 667 to now 778 but there's no way I'd say that realistic compared to slower HDDs.

Wasn't it Rodney King that said......

"Can't we just all get along?"

"The liberal arts aspect of my education ......." OH spare me !!

Hehe, sounds like "it's the time of the month" for a few members LOL.

Some of you think that a degree means jack shit, but most employers will pay you more if you have a degree versus a simple HS education and experience. Please bear with me, as I do not have a 4-year college degree, only a 2 year, and before my 2 year, all I had was a HS diploma. In order for me to make more money in my current field, my employer told me that I needed to go back to college and finish, at a minimum, my 2-year degree which I did. It made a big difference in my pay. I probably would have been stuck at 35-40k/year, were now I'm making 65k/year.

Thats about all them papers are good for though lol ... other then that they would make good TP :p

not saying it s abad thing to have them which it is not but really just because some one has a diploma dont mean they are smart lol there are more then one way of being smart :)

I can't believe that a simple SOFTWARE related question has become a thread of verbal abuse but as long as I'm here, like another older guy here I too will tell you that papers like degrees are worth ALOT more than what you're now thinking. I use to think the same way when I was younger as I too didn't want to play life by the rules but I can say that things go alot easier if you do and getting those paper degrees, etc DOES mean alot more than you think, it opens doors and gets you into places where you won't be otherwise.
Now, no....a degree in itself doesn't mean that that guy is smarter or necessarily knows more than another guy w/o one but don't knock anyone for getting one. I'd bet that he'll be laughing all the way to bank someday.

I think it was Msr Poop's condescending tone that lit up the Pred man. Most people with a formal education don't need to advertise it.
