Hard Drive Question

Post by dadx2mj »

Hello all, I have an old Quantum Firball HDD in my kids computer. I am thinking it is on its last legs as sometimes on boot up it give a boot disk failure error and they are starting to get some BSOD and lock ups. Since Quantum is no more does any one know of a utility I can run to check out the hdd? Can I use a utility from another hdd manufacture like Maxtor or IBM or are these utilities manufacture spesific? TIA

I've never tried a utility meant for another hd so I can't answer that. But according to this page quantum software will not work with maxtor, but they don't say if maxtor software will work with quantum.

On that page they give this link which hopefully will do what you want.

Looking further I found this . That's probably your best bet. ;)

The POWERMAX.EXE utility is designed to perform diagnostic read/write verifications on Maxtor/Quantum hard drives. These tests will determine hard drive integrity.
